Help with a Federal Agency
- Overland Park office: (913) 621-0832

Helping you is one of my biggest responsibilities. If you're having issues with federal government red tape, we'll help however we can.
That includes help with stalled tax refunds, Medicare issues, passports, backlogged Veterans' benefits, and so much else. You can refer to this page to learn more and find other resources.
Get Started: Help with a Federal Agency
If you can't get an answer from a federal agency in a timely fashion, or if you feel you have been treated unfairly, we may be able to help. While we can't guarantee you a favorable outcome, we'll do our best to help you receive a fair and timely response to your problem.
Here are three things you need to know so we can start helping you quickly:
1. My office can only serve residents within the district I represent, the 3rd Congressional District of Kansas. If you're unsure if you live within the third district, click here to find out.
2. If you do reside within the Kansas Third District and need assistance with the federal government, please fill out our online casework authorization form. Completing this step will connect you with a member of my team who can then help you address your situation.
Please click here to fill out my office's casework authorization form.
3. After submitting the authorization form, please collect all pertinent information and claim numbers regarding your situation. That way when my staff contacts you to follow-up, we'll be in a better position to serve you. That information may include:
- Copies of any related documents or correspondence that you may have from the agency involved;
- Your Social Security number for a case involving Social Security;
- VA claim number for a case with Department of Veterans Affairs;
- Taxpayer identification number (Social Security number, if individual) for an Internal Revenue Service problem, etc.;
Lastly, please also note that you also later have to fill out a privacy act waiver. Federal law requires members of Congress or their staff have written authorization before they can obtain information about an individual's case (the Privacy Act of 1974 - 5 U.S.C. § 552a).

Helping You: A Guide
Folks often don't know it, but one of my biggest jobs is to help you. To help clarify things, below is a guide with examples of different issues we may be able to assist you with. We're here to assist with any federal agency, so please call us even if your specific issue isn't mentioned here.
- Military Personnel and Veterans: My mother served in the U.S. Army for twenty years and we have a Wounded Warrior Fellow on our team. We're here to help with backlogged benefits, VA health care issues, and more.
- Seniors: Seniors deserve a dignified retirement after working hard their whole lives. We're here to help people who are having issues with Social Security, Medicare, or other federal government programs.
- Taxpayers: I know that taxes can be a burden on families and small businesses. We may be able to help you address issues with the IRS like a stalled refund or a tax payment plan.
- Passports: Is your application stalled or are you having issues with a renewal? We may be able to help with an emergency or if you think you won't receive your passport in time.
- Small Businesses: Entrepreneurship is baked into our district's DNA. We may be able to help business owners and entrepreneurs who are having trouble with SBA loans and other issues.
- Students: If you're having issues with your federal financial aid, we may be able to help with issues involving student loans, defaulted loans, and loan forgiveness.
- Homeowners: If you're facing foreclosure or need a loan modification, we can follow-up with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to help or connect you with other resources.
- Military Academy Nominations: I'm honored to nominate hardworking young people to our military service academies – some of the best universities in the country that build strong leaders.
