Davids Secures $2.6M FAA Grant for New Air Traffic Control Tower at New Century AirCenter

May 27, 2026

Representative Sharice Davids announced she secured a $2.6 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration to support construction of a new air traffic control tower at New Century AirCenter.

The project is designed to improve safety and modernize operations at one of the Kansas City region’s busiest aviation hubs. Airport officials say the new tower will strengthen air traffic coordination, enhance safety for pilots and airport personnel, and help the facility manage increasing aviation demand.

New Century AirCenter serves as a major center for business aviation, freight transportation, and economic development in the Kansas City metropolitan area. The airport handles more than 96,000 operations annually, supports about 120 aircraft, and features a 7,339-foot runway, the second longest in the region.

Rep. Davids has previously supported federal investments in the airport, including grants for runway safety and structural improvements. Funding for the latest project was included in the FY2026 appropriations package approved earlier this year.
