Federal grant provides more than $1M for park in Roeland Park

September 19, 2025

More than $1 million will be invested in improvements for new bike and walking trails, playground equipment, safety surfacing and more in Roeland Park.

The U.S. Department of the Interior has awarded the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks with a $1.5 million federal grant to update and improve Nall Park.

“Public spaces like Nall Park are a big part of what makes Johnson County such a special place to work, live, and raise a family,” said Rep. Sharice Davids. “I’m glad to see federal investments coming directly back into our community to improve our quality of life. These updates will ensure that families across Roeland Park and Johnson County can enjoy this space safely for generations to come.”

The improvements for Nall Park will specifically include a mountain bike trail, a beginner trail, a pump track, a playground, sidewalks and trails, retaining walls, a new shelter and a gravel access road. It’ll also include safety surfacing, a shade structure and landscaping improvements.

The National Park Service’s Land and Water Conservation Fund grant has administered the project for Nall Park. That was supported by Davids when she voted for the Great American Outdoors Act, which was signed into law in August 2020 by President Donald Trump.
