Kansas Schools to Receive $8.3 Million to Support Teachers and Leaders

Rep. Sharice Davids announced an $8.3 million federal award for the Kansas State Department of Education through the U.S. Department of Education’s Teacher and School Leader Incentive Program.

The funding includes about $2.9 million in base funding and $5.5 million in additional funding for fiscal year 2026.

The federal program supports efforts to recruit and retain teachersand school leaders, provide professional development and coaching, and create leadership opportunities for educators, according to the U.S. Department of Education. The program places a focus on high-need schools, including those in rural communities.

Rep. Davids said the investment will help Kansasschoolssupportteachersand school leadersand give students access to strong educational opportunities.

The Department of Education expects to provide about $60 million nationwide through the 2026 program.

The funding comes as Kansasand other states continue efforts to recruit and retain educators, particularly in communities facing teacher shortages.
