Davids Announces 2019 Congressional App Challenge Winners

Representative Sharice Davids has announced the winner of the 2019 Congressional App Challenge for Kansas' Third District: Samuel DeZube, Ike Summerlin, Bradley Lichtmann and Andrew Kampschroeder from Blue Valley Center for Advanced Professional Studies.
Their app entitled "SafeSpace" compiles life-saving texting and calling hotlines for those who are suffering from depression, anxiety, sexual assault, drug abuse, or other forms of mental illness.
"I'm so excited to recognize Samuel, Ike, Bradley and Andrew for their app SafeSpace, which tackles such an important issue that impacts so many people in our community, especially our youth – mental health," said Davids. "I want to thank all the students who participated in the app challenge this year and showed off the talent and creativity the Third District has to offer. It's all the more reason why we must support STEM education."
The Congressional App Challenge is a nation-wide competition hosted by the U.S. House of Representatives to encourage middle and high school students to learn to code and pursue careers in computer science and other STEM related fields.
As the winning submission, the SafeSpace app will be put on display in the U.S. Capitol Building for one year. The winning students also have a chance to visit the Capitol and see their app on display.
