Davids Announces Federal Investment for Johnson County Park Upgrades
Today, Representative Sharice Davids announced the U.S. the Department of the Interior has awarded the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks with a federal grant to update and improve Nall Park, the largest park in Roeland Park. The $1.5 million investment, which Davids voted for, will include new bike and walking trails, playground equipment, safety surfacing, and more.
“Public spaces like Nall Park are a big part of what makes Johnson County such a special place to work, live, and raise a family,” said Davids. “I’m glad to see federal investments coming directly back into our community to improve our quality of life. These updates will ensure that families across Roeland Park and Johnson County can enjoy this space safely for generations to come.”
“Roeland Park is excited to bring the vision our residents conveyed through the 2024 Nall Park Master Planning process to reality through this $1.5 million federal LWCF grant award,” said Keith Moody, City Administrator, Roeland Park. “Nall Park is the largest park in Roeland Park, and this Master Plan Improvement Project will be the single largest park project undertaken by the City due in large part to the federal funds awarded the project. The $3.5 million project is anticipated to commence in 2026 and be completed in 2027. We look forward to cutting the ribbon on this amazing public amenity.”
Specific improvements include constructing a mountain bike trail, a beginner trail, a pump track, a playground, sidewalks and trails, retaining walls, a new shelter, and a gravel access road; installing safety surfacing, a concrete pad, a shade structure, a bike repair station, signage and wayfinding elements, landscaping, and site amenities; and renovating an existing shelter and restroom facility.
This project is administered through the National Park Service’s Land and Water Conservation Fund grant program, which Davids helped make permanent by voting for the Great American Outdoors Act, signed into law by President Donald Trump in August 2020.
