Davids Announces Service Academy Nominations
Rep. Sharice Davids has nominated 31 students from the Kansas Third District for an appointment to a U.S. Service Academy.
“As the daughter of an Army veteran, I’m honored to nominate hardworking, bright, and talented young people from Kansas’ Third District to our nation’s military service academies,” said Davids. “These are some of the best universities in the country and help build strong leaders in our armed forces and beyond. I look forward to seeing all that these young Kansans accomplish.”
Rep. Davids’ nominations were made based on the recommendations of her Academy Panelist Board. This year’s nonpartisan board included: Lieutenant Colonel, retired, Mike Souder and Lieutenant Commander, retired, Anjail Belton. These panelists conduct personal interviews with each applicant, in addition to reviewing written applications, letters of recommendation, and G.P.A. In accordance with public health guidelines, the entire process this year was conducted virtually.
After receiving a nomination from Rep. Davids, applicants must then meet the individual admission requirements for their respective academy. The academies themselves will then make the final decision on an appointment of admission. Due to limited capacity, not every nominee will receive an appointment.
Rep. Davids’ nominees include:
United States Air Force Academy at Colorado Springs, Colo.
United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md.
United States Military Academy at West Point, N.Y.
United States Merchant Marines Academy at Kings Point, N.Y.
