August 15, 2023

ABILENE, KS – Today, Representative Sharice Davids joined the U.S. Small Business Administrator Isabel Guzman at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library to celebrate the Small Business Administration’s (SBA) 70th anniversary. President Eisenhower, who was raised in Abilene, Kansas, created the SBA in 1953 to support and protect the interests of small businesses. Davids has served on the U.S. House Small Business Committee since coming to Congress in 2019.

"President Eisenhower knew, as do I, that our small businesses are the heart of our communities, and we have an especially vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Kansas Third,” said Davids. “I will continue working with the Small Business Administration and my colleagues from both parties in Congress to give small business owners the tools needed support their families and employees and contribute to our local economies.”

"Standing alongside SBA Administrator Isabel Casillas Guzman, U.S. Representative Sharice Davids, dedicated Kansas elected officials, and local leaders, we proudly celebrated the 70th Anniversary,” said Mindy Brissey, SBA Regional Administrator for Region 7. “This event exemplifies our unwavering dedication to nurturing innovation, fostering economic resilience, and ensuring a vibrant entrepreneurial spirit across our communities."

“Entrepreneurs across the state have launched successful companies with the assistance they received from SBA and the Department of Commerce,” said Kansas Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland. “The environment for small businesses to prosper in Kansas has never been stronger because of the coordinated federal and state support. I’d like to thank Rep. Davids for being such a strong voice for our state’s small business community in Congress.”

After a tour of the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library and lunch from the Hitching Post, Davids and Guzman joined Kansas Senator Rodger Marshall, Kansas Lieutenant Governor David Toland, and the Eisenhower family at a press conference celebrating the SBA’s 70th anniversary. Davids’ remarks focused on her U.S. House Small Business Committee work and the importance of small businesses to our country’s overall economy. Davids also touted recent federal legislation that is supporting Kansas small businesses, including the bipartisan infrastructure law, which is reducing small business shipping delays and creating good-paying jobs.

Davids believes entrepreneurship is baked into the DNA of the Kansas Third District and has worked to support local small businesses since coming to Congress. Most recently, she toured a local childcare facility to highlight how federal investments have supported the workforce and daily operations of local childcare small businesses. Davids also led bipartisan legislation with Rep. Mark Alford (R-MO-03) to help veteran entrepreneurs access SBA resources. She’s also focused on ensuring proper oversight of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), and questioned Administrator Guzman on the SBA's efforts to support fraud victims in Johnson County.
