Davids Promotes Four New Small Business Funding Opportunities

June 2, 2022

Overland Park grant programs and State Small Business Credit Initiative funded by federal American Rescue Plan

Today, Representative Sharice Davids shared four new funding opportunities for Kansas small businesses provided by the American Rescue Plan. Davids is the only member of the Kansas delegation who voted for the American Rescue Plan, which has already helped hundreds of businesses in the Kansas Third District stay afloat. Davids also serves as the Chair of the House Small Business Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax, and Capital Access.

"The American Rescue Plan continues to deliver for Kansas. As small businesses face new challenges—from supply chains to workforce—we are making sure they can keep serving our communities and powering our economy," said Davids. "These programs represent a collaboration between state, local, and federal efforts as well as private funding opportunities to support our small business owners."

Three small business grant programs designed by the City of Overland Park and Community Capital Fund opened for applications this week. These programs, funded by the American Rescue Plan, are targeted at small businesses that experienced employee loss, need help with childcare and payroll costs, or operate in the hard-hit hospitality industry. Applications will be accepted until June 30, 2022. More information and applications can be found here.

"Overland Park small businesses are a driving force behind our community's strong neighborhoods, infrastructure, and of course, economic growth," said Overland Park Mayor Curt Skoog. "Using this federal funding to support these businesses is key to Overland Park's continued success through the pandemic."

"We routinely hear from businesses in our community that the economic impact of the COVID pandemic is lingering. Overland Park's use of federal ARPA funds to create these targeted relief programs is an important tool in helping businesses recover. We applaud our elected officials who created and funded these initiatives," said Tracey Osborne Oltjen, President & CEO of the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce.

Additionally, this week Kansas received American Rescue Plan funding for small business development and entrepreneurship through the State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI). This funding, provided by the U.S. Department of Treasury, will be used to help Kansas entrepreneurs grow businesses in manufacturing, aerospace, transportation, agriculture, and more. The $69 million federal investment will be distributed through Kansas' GROWKS Loan Fund and GROWKS Angel Capital Support Program. Every dollar of SSBCI funding is expected to catalyze up to $10 of private investment in small businesses.

New data from the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office shows that the American Rescue Plan helped the U.S. economic recovery outperform expectations, resulting in record low unemployment, wage and salary growth, and record economic growth.
