Davids Pushes House Leadership to Move Bipartisan Permitting Reform Without Delay, Demands Protections for Tribal Sovereignty

November 6, 2026

Today, Representative Sharice Davids (D-KS-03) is demanding swift action on critical permitting reform. She stressed that holding up common-sense reform hurts working families who need immediate relief on their monthly bills, while insisting that negotiators use ongoing discussions to secure strong treaty and environmental protections for Tribal nations.

"Kansans and working families across the country are feeling the squeeze every single month when they open their electric bills," said Davids. "They are tired of partisan fighting and politicians that refuse to address our affordability crisis. Modernizing our permitting process is an important way to lower utility costs, create good-paying local jobs, and secure our energy future, and we need to get it done."

"Standing up for working families means getting this done the right way and ensuring we don't repeat mistakes of the past," Davids continued. "Passing this bill cannot come at the expense of Tribal sovereignty and the federal trust responsibility. Indian Country protects some of our nation’s most sacred historic and cultural resources, and Congress cannot steamroll our trust and treaty responsibilities. I am working with House and Senate leaders in both parties to fix these provisions so we can pass a bill that lowers everyday costs, respects Tribal nations, and protects our environment."
