Yesterday, Representative Sharice Davids received a Director's Award from The University of Kansas Cancer Center. The award, given during the cancer center's annual research week, recognizes a legislator who has contributed significantly to the cancer center's mission.
"I'm honored to receive this recognition by The University of Kansas Cancer Center," said Davids. "I'll continue advocating for federal funds that aid their life-saving work, and will continue supporting their world-class scientists as they make inroads in cancer research following their new, prestigious designation."
"Because of the support we have received from Representative Sharice Davids, we are able to accelerate cancer biology research efforts at our institution," said Roy Jensen, MD, Vice Chancellor and Director of The University of Kansas Cancer Center. This is the highest level of recognition awarded by the NCI and is the gold standard for cancer centers.
To support Kansas patients, Davids voted for a new law that lowers health care costs. The bill includes key priorities that Davids has pushed for including allowing Medicare tonegotiatefor lower prescription drug costs andcappinginsulin costs at $35 a month for seniors on Medicare. In her new health care report, Davids also found the new law will help families in the Kansas Third save an average of $980 a year if they buy their own insurance and will extend the same savings to eligible families with unaffordable employer-sponsored insurance.
