Davids Receives U.S. Chamber of Commerce Award for Bipartisan Support of Kansas Businesses

November 3, 2022

Today, Representative Sharice Davids received the "Advocate for American Business" award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The award is given to elected officials who advocate and fight for pro-business public policy in a bipartisan manner. Davids serves on the U.S. House Small Business Committee and chairs the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax and Capital Access.

"Entrepreneurship is baked into the DNA of Kansas' Third District," said Davids. "It's a tremendous honor to be recognized for supporting the business community here in our state, but this work never ends. I'm going to keep working with both parties to ensure Kansas companies have the necessary resources to grow and opportunities to contribute to our global economy."

"Rep. Sharice Davids is a leader who has delivered results for the constituents and businesses of Kansas' Third Congressional District," said John Gonzales, U.S. Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, SW-South Central Regional Office. "Born and raised in Kansas, Rep. Davids deeply understands the challenges facing business owners, workers, and families in her district. She supports free enterprise and the American business community. The U.S. Chamber is proud to recognize Congresswoman Davids."

"We're tremendously grateful to have Rep. Davids' support for our growing business community," said Sara Ritter, President, De Soto Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Council. "Economic development thrives when we have strong partnerships at every level of government."

The U.S. Chamber's "Advocate for American Business" award, previously known as the "Spirit of Enterprise" award, is given to leaders who advocate and fight for pro-business public policy and recognize the need for finding lasting solutions to fix our business community's challenges. Specifically, the award recognizes elected officials who advance those priorities in a bipartisan manner. The awards committee also acknowledges the leader's behind the scenes work to produce beneficial legislation and stop harmful legislation.

Davids, who hosted U.S. SBA Administrator in Kansas last month, has worked to support Kansas' business community since being sworn into congress. As a member of the Small Business Committee, she's advocated for many bipartisan policies including:

  • Boosting Kansas Manufacturing – Davids served alongside Sen. Jerry Moran as a negotiator on a new, bipartisan law that lowers costs for Kansas businesses and families by investing in domestic manufacturing and innovation.
  • Supporting Women-Owned Businesses – Davids introduced the bipartisan Women's Business Centers Improvement Act, which would increase access to resources and opportunities for female entrepreneurs in Kansas and across the country.
  • Creating Needed Pandemic Relief – Davids supported the bipartisan law that created Paycheck protection Program, which protected tens of thousands of jobs across Kansas' Third District, and fought for additional transparency measures to ensure the assistance only went to small businesses that needed relief – not well-connected corporations.
