Davids Rejects Pay Until Congress Reaches Bipartisan Deal to End Shutdown

October 27, 2025

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Sharice Davids announced she would refuse to accept a paycheck until both parties come together to end this costly government shutdown. Davids, who recently heard from furloughed federal employees, sent a letter to the Chief Administrative Officer of the United States House of Representatives, Catherine Szpindor, asking for her salary to be withheld for the duration of this shutdown.

“While the federal government continues to experience a shutdown, I respectfully request that you withhold my congressional salary until the government reopens,” said Davids. “Federal workers, active-duty service members, and other Kansans will not receive their full paychecks this month. In solidarity, until Congress comes to a bipartisan resolution to this impasse and fully reopens the government, I wish for my pay to be differed.”

Davids continued, “Washington’s dysfunction is unacceptable, and Kansans have had enough. I continue to urge my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to come to the table to end this shutdown, and I will refuse to accept a paycheck until this shutdown is resolved.”

The full letter is available here.

Davids is pushing for a bipartisan agreement to reopen the government and protect Kansans from skyrocketing health care costs when insurance tax credits expire later this year. She recently announced her support for two bills: one to guarantee pay for aviation workers and another to ensure active-duty service members continue receiving their paychecks. Kansas is home to more than 25,000 federal employees and more than 21,000 active-duty service members.
