Davids Statement on Election of Speaker of the House

Today, after three weeks of Speaker elections halted all other official business in the House of Representatives, Representative Sharice Davids released the below statement following the election of a new Speaker of the House.

“The only way to deliver real results for Kansans is by Republicans and Democrats working together. However, the majority has elected a Speaker who has consistently demonstrated a lack of interest in working across the aisle, relentlessly pushing extreme policies such as support for a national abortion ban without exceptions and opposition to same-sex marriage. Kansans are frustrated with Washington and are demanding solutions instead of more partisanship, especially now as we confront multiple crises throughout the world that require swift action. While the new House leadership may not share this same goal, I remain committed to finding bipartisan solutions to address the everyday challenges faced by Kansans, including lowering the costs of groceries and gas.”
