Davids Statement on Passage of War Powers Resolution

Representative Sharice Davids issued the following statement on her vote to pass the War Powers Resolution limiting the President's military action regarding Iran:

"In the past week, it's become clear that the President's air strike that killed Qassem Soleimani was conducted without a clear and coherent strategy for how to deal with the aftermath of such a major escalation and keep Americans safe, at home and abroad. It was also conducted without the consultation of Congress, and I have yet to see the Administration demonstrate to Congress that there was an imminent threat necessitating such an escalatory attack.

"That's why I voted to pass a War Powers resolution limiting the President's military actions regarding Iran unless Congress authorizes them, or unless the use is necessary to defend against an imminent armed attack on the United States or our armed forces. The Administration must work with Congress to put forward an effective strategy to de-escalate tensions and avoid further violence."
