Davids Statement on the President's Executive Actions

Press Release

Representative Sharice Davids issued the following statement on the President's recent executive actions in response to the coronavirus pandemic:

“I’ve continued to push for Congressional leaders and the White House to reach a bipartisan agreement on a relief package that addresses this crisis head on and helps Kansas families, workers, and small businesses weather this pandemic. People’s lives and livelihoods are at stake – and they are exhausted by the Washington political games that get us nowhere.

“Instead of working with Congress to reach a deal, the President announced executive actions that do not come close to meeting the scale of the crisis we’re facing. People are struggling without expanded unemployment insurance or housing support, but it’s far from clear that anyone can get more help under the Administration’s proposal. Meanwhile, the plan threatens to defund Social Security and Medicare at a time when people need them both more than ever.”

“It’s Congress’ constitutional responsibility to meet this challenge, and only a bipartisan bill can do that.”
