Davids’ Statement on Texas Court’s Ruling Banning Widely-Used Abortion Medication

April 8, 2023

Representative Sharice Davids issued the following statement after a Texas court released a decision in Alliance Defending Freedom v. U.S. Food and Drug Administration that would block the Federal Drug Administration's (FDA) approval of mifepristone, a medication used in more than half of all abortions in the United States.

"Yesterday, a Texas court ignored 20 years of science and blocked access to an abortion medication that's been safely and effectively used by millions of Americans for decades. While mifepristone is still legal for now, this unprecedented ruling not only puts Kansans' health at risk, but also undermines the FDA's ability to keep safe and effective medications available to folks who need them.

"Last year, Kansas resoundingly rejected extremist actions to limit reproductive health care access. This new decision once again threatens to strip away the ability for Kansans to freely make health care decisions that are best for our families and futures. I will continue working so folks in our state and across the country have access to the full range of health care, including reproductive health care."
