ICYMI: Davids and Moran Urge Action to Improve USPS Delivery Times
Yesterday, in a letter to United States Postmaster General Louis DeJoy, Representative Sharice Davids, the daughter of a postal worker, and Senator Jerry Moran urged action to address poor mail service in Kansas. The pair highlighted recent complaints from Kansans on mail delivery issues and asked for an update on implementation of the Postal Service Reform Act, bipartisan legislation aimed at shoring up the Postal Service's finances and improving reliability for consumers.
The Postal Service has remained fiscally underwater due to legislation passed decades ago limiting how it spends its money and what services it could offer. These budgetary difficulties led to the recent closing and consolidation of local post offices in Kansas City, Kansas, Overland Park, Prairie Village, and Leawood. Now, Davids is working to ensure the law's policies are efficiently enacted so Kansans receive mail on time, without delay.
Davids and Moran's efforts to ensure reliability of the Postal Service made headlines across Kansas:
Kansas City Star: "A year after postal reform bill, Moran and Davids raise complaints to Postmaster DeJoy"
"Rep. Sharice Davids, a Kansas Democrat, and Sen. Jerry Moran, a Kansas Republican, teamed up to send a letter to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy Thursday, amid rising complaints about mail delivery.
Their letter comes a year after President Joe Biden signed a bill intended to relieve some of the financial burdens on the Postal Service. The legislation changed how the Postal Service pays retiree benefits, while guaranteeing six days of mail service a week. Both Davids and Moran supported the bill, which passed with bipartisan support.

‘It is unacceptable that implementation of certain provisions, including the six-day-a-week delivery service, is not being accomplished by USPS,' Davids and Moran wrote in their letter.
Kansas Reflector: "Moran, Davids urge U.S. Postal Service leadership to explain mail delivery delays"
"U.S. Sen. Jerry Moran and U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids forwarded a joint letter to United States Postal Service administrators requesting an explanation for slow delivery of mail in Kansas.
Davids, a Democrat serving the 3rd District in the Kansas City area, and Moran, a Republican, asked for an update from postmaster general Louis DeJoy regarding implementation of a law last year to improve the national mail system's financial stability and consumer reliability.

Davids and Moran voted for the postal service legislation designed to safe the service $27 billion as it became more efficient and effective."
"Kansas lawmakers are demanding answers for slow mail delivery. It's a bipartisan request coming from Democratic Congresswoman Sharice Davids and Republican Senator Jerry Moran.
They say their offices are getting more and more complaints about delivery delays. In one case an Overland Park resident is still waiting for a 2021 tax refund check."
"Senator Jerry Moran and Congresswoman Sharice Davids are calling on the Post Office to make deliveries on time. They say they've received numerous complaints about late deliveries and missing mail, even after passing the Postal Service Reform Act last year."
"Two Kansas lawmakers are demanding answers from the Postmaster General for mail delays. A law passed last year was intended to improve the mail systems financial stability and consumer reliability, but Democrat Sharice Davids and Republican Jerry Moran say they've received a growing number of messages from people concerned about mail being late or not arriving at all."
"A couple members of our federal delegation trying to solve mail delays. Senator Jerry Moran and Congresswoman Sharice Davids sending a letter to Postmaster General.

The two acknowledged the Postal Service is dealing with a staffing shortage, but want to know how the agency is fixing it."
