ICYMI: Davids Wins Prestigious Democracy Award for ‘Transparency and Accountability’

September 8, 2022

Rep. Davids’ office recognized as “one of the best in congress” for “helping restore trust and faith”

Earlier this week, The Congressional Management Foundation (CMF) announced that Representative Sharice Davidshas won a Democracy Award, a distinctive honor recognizing achievement in operations and constituent service by Members of Congress. Davids has been selected for her outstanding accomplishments in Transparency and Accountability, an award given to one Democrat and one Republican for demonstrating exceptional, meaningful, and robust communications to constituents.

"I originally ran for congress because I wanted to help restore our county's faith in the federal government, and I have made it clear to my team that we should be as accessible and transparent as possible to those we serve. I am proud of them and the work we get to do. It's truly an honor," said Davids.

"As a Democracy Award winner, Rep. Davids' office is clearly one of the best in Congress," said Bradford Fitch, President and CEO of the Congressional Management Foundation. "This designation demonstrates that Rep. Davids has made a significant commitment to being the best public servant for her constituents in Kansas. Rep. Davids and her staff are to be congratulated for not only being a model for her colleagues in Congress, but for helping to restore trust and faith that our democratic institutions can work."

Among other noteworthy items, CMF included the following reasons for selecting Davids for an award:

"Externally, the office of Rep. Sharice Davids (D-KS) hosts live conversations and telephone town halls with Rep. Davids and guests, sends newsletters with surveys to provide feedback to over 90,000 constituents, and releases "Year in Review" data, which includes the number of constituent messages responded to, the number of viewers reached on live conversations and telephone town halls, the number of constituent cases opened, and the number of bills cosponsored with the bipartisan percentage."

Eight House and Senate offices were honored as winners in four categories: Constituent Service; Innovation and Modernization; Transparency and Accountability; and "Life in Congress"-Workplace Environment. The winners were selected by a selection committee primarily comprised of former Members of Congress and congressional staff. The winners will be honored at a ceremony to be held in Washington, D.C. in the fall.

Founded in 1977, the Congressional Management Foundation (CMF) is a 501(c)(3) nonpartisan nonprofit whose mission is to build trust and effectiveness in Congress.
