ICYMI: KMBC Reports on Davids’ Work to Help Constituents Navigate Federal Government Processes

August 5, 2022

Last week, KMBC 9 News reported on Representative Sharice Davids' work to help constituents navigate the federal government, particularly her team's efforts to assist with passport retrieval issues. In 2022 alone, Davids' office has opened over 90 cases for constituents having issues securing a new or renewed passport before their international travel.

This year, Davids' office has closed a total of 794 federal agency cases and saved $3,844,865 for constituents. Since Davids was sworn into congress, they've closed 3,795 cases and saved $9,884,549. If a resident is having issues with passports, VA benefits, Social Security, or other federal agencies, they are encouraged to call Davids' district office at (913) 621-0832 for assistance.

KMBC: Passport problems: Wait times finally starting to ease for official travel documents

"Since the beginning of the pandemic, travelers trying to get passports have had significant issues.

[…]

In Overland Park, Kansas, Stacy Drake applied for her passport in early March so she could go on a company trip booked to Switzerland in July.

[…]

But months later, there was still no sign of her passport.

"It was two weeks prior to my trip, with several phone calls, without any success," Drake said.

[…]

Even Kansas Rep. Sharice Davids knew the stresses affecting new or expiration-lapsed international travelers.

"She certainly has not been the only person with this issue," Davids said.

The Kansas representative's office says they continue to get calls asking for help getting passports.

"In 2022 alone as travel is starting to ramp up again. We've already opened over 90 passport cases," Davids said.

The congresswoman says that's a lot. She suggests folks know precisely when their passport expires and plan well ahead of time.

Stacy was one of those 90 cases and got her passport just one day before her trip."
