Rep. Davids Statement on Passage of Middle Class Health Benefits Tax Repeal Act

July 17, 2019

Rep. Davids issued the following statement on the House passage of H.R.748, the Middle Class Health Benefits Tax Repeal Act of 2019.

"Today, I joined my House colleagues to pass the bipartisan Middle Class Health Benefits Tax Repeal Act, which would repeal the so-called ‘Cadillac tax,' a pending tax on the most expensive employer-sponsored health insurance plans that would shift health insurance costs to employees and their families. At a time when so many hard-working Kansas families are struggling to afford quality health care, we must be focused on driving down costs, not increasing them."

"That being said, my concern remains that the House is bringing bills for a vote without finding ways to pay for them first. I urge Congress to re-focus on finding ways to pay for legislation that we pass, especially when it's as important as ensuring Americans receive affordable health care. I hope that if this bill passes the Senate and goes to conference, Congress will do the hard work of funding it."
