Davids statement on White House peace plan
Representative Sharice Davids (KS-03) issued the following statement on the White House’s newly released proposal to achieve a peaceful agreement between Israel and Palestine:
“It is my sincere hope that the White House can bring both Israeli and Palestinian leadership to the table to find a valid two-state solution that will bring lasting peace to the region. However, the proposal announced last week includes several concerning provisions, including the possibilities of annexation of the West Bank and restrictions that would prevent a truly independent Palestinian state. I encourage both nations to avoid taking unilateral action that will jeopardize long-term progress, whether in the form of annexation or ending security cooperation. I am disappointed that Palestinian leadership was not involved in the negotiations for this proposal. A lasting peace plan must be the result of discussions between both Israeli and Palestinian leaders.
“National self-determination is essential for Palestinians and Israelis alike and is absolutely critical to any future negotiations. My hope is that the leadership of the U.S., Palestine, and Israel engage in discussions in good faith, knowing that peace is possible with cooperation and respect between all parties.”
