Rep. Sharice Davids Emphasizes Need to Expand Medicaid in Kansas
Emphasizing the importance of expanding Medicaid in Kansas, Rep. Sharice Davids has co-sponsored the Incentivizing Medicaid Expansion Act of 2019 (H.R. 584). This bill would incentivize eligible states, including Kansas, to expand Medicaid by starting the amount the federal government matches state's investment for expansion at 100 percent.
"From skyrocketing prescription drug prices to rising premiums, too many Americans are struggling with the basic costs of healthcare and access to quality coverage. It's essential that Kansas joins the 36 states that have already expanded Medicaid to lower healthcare costs, increase access to quality healthcare coverage, and protect those with pre-existing conditions in our own communities," said Davids.
This bill would allow states to receive 100% Federal Medical Assistance Percentages for the first three years after it expands Medicaid, 95% for the fourth year, 94% for the fifth year, 93% for the sixth year, and 90% all years thereafter.
"It's no secret that expanding Medicaid is my priority – it will create jobs, support rural hospitals, keep our tax dollars here in our state, and make Kansas families stronger. I'm pleased to have Rep. Davids advocating to expand Medicaid in Congress and looking for ways to further supplement the state's investment.
