Rep. Sharice Davids introduces “Sharice's Shift” outreach program
Today, Congresswoman Sharice Davids launched “Sharice’s Shift” - an ongoing outreach program designed to connect directly with local workers, businesses, and everyday people throughout the Third District.
At each “Sharice’s Shift” event, Rep. Davids will meet with and shadow employees at work. The program’s first installment took place this afternoon at Shawnee coffee shop Espresso Yourself.
In between pouring coffee and busing tables, Rep. Davids was able to chat directly with employees and customers to hear about the issues and concerns that matter most to their families.
She also met with co-owners Amy Becker and Jessica Montes - both members of the LGBTQ community - about their experience as minority small business owners.
“I appreciate the opportunity to speak directly to my Representative about the challenges and opportunities we see every day as small business owners,” Montes said. “Having the Congresswoman here on site, speaking with our employees and customers, gives her insight into the community and our small business that will help her represent us well in Washington.”
As a first-generation college student who worked her way through school, Rep. Davids personally relates to the hardworking families of her district. As a Member of Congress, she is committed to standing with them.
“You can’t represent the Kansas Third District from behind a desk in Washington D.C.,” Davids said. “That’s why I’m making it a priority to continue being present in our community, listening to and learning from the folks I was elected to serve.”
“Sharice’s Shift” events will be held regularly throughout the Third District. If you’re a local business that would like to participate, please contact Rep. Davids’ District office at (913) 621-0832.
