WATCH: Davids Speaks on House Floor in Support of Health Care Package to Help Kansas Expand Medicaid

June 29, 2020

Representative Sharice Davids spoke on the House Floor today in support of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Enhancement Act, legislation that would give Kansas more urgently needed money to expand Medicaid. The bill also would help lower the cost of health care and prescription drugs and protect people with pre-existing conditions.

This comes on the heels of the Trump Administration filing a brief with the Supreme Court asking the justices to strike down the entirety of the Affordable Care Act, which would cause 94,000 Kansans to lose their health coverage.

"I've long been pushing for Kansas to join the 36 states that have already expanded Medicaid so we can lower health care costs and increase access to health coverage, meaning more people are protected during emergencies like the coronavirus pandemic. While this Administration works to tear down the Affordable Care Act in court, I'm working with my House colleagues to strengthen the ACA and help ensure Kansans can receive affordable, quality health care," said Davids.

The House is set to vote on the legislation later today.
