WATCH: Davids Urges Colleagues to Pass Infrastructure Bill

September 30, 2021

Today, Representative Sharice Davids took to the House floor in support of the bipartisan infrastructure bill, which would bring $3.8 billion to Kansas for infrastructure needs from roads and bridges to high-speed internet and public transit. She urged her colleagues to "set aside the gamesmanship" and "deliver what our communities have been calling for,' noting that over a dozen leaders in the Third District came together last week to urge the Kansas delegation to support the bipartisan infrastructure bill.

"For the people sitting in traffic on US 69, or waiting for the bus in Wyandotte County, or wondering why that one road floods every year no matter how many times we fix it – this can't wait," said Davids. "I urge my colleagues to set aside the gamesmanship, and not to see this as an opportunity to score political points, but an opportunity to deliver what our communities have been calling for."

Davids also notes that this bill will address immediate infrastructure needs as well as longer-term goals, creating jobs and "boosting economic output without increasing inflation." She draws parallels to Kansas native President Eisenhower, saying, "We were then, as we are today, in a challenging time defined by national crisis and economic difficulty. I believe, as Eisenhower did, that infrastructure is key to building long-term economic growth."

The bipartisan infrastructure bill, titled Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, was passed by the Senate with 69 votes in August. A vote in the House is expected today.
