Davids Helps Recover $11 Million for Taxpayers in Kansas’ Third District

September 14, 2022

Today, Representative Sharice Davids announced her office has officially helped recover over $11 million owed to local taxpayers in the Kansas Third District. This milestone highlights the success of Davids' robust constituent service efforts, a priority she's maintained since taking office. Of the $11 million, Davids' office recovered over $7 million in missing IRS tax returns.

In total, Davids' office has helped 4,150 hardworking Kansans with overdue tax returns, missing Social Security and veterans benefits, and more. In 2021 alone, her office closed 1,468 cases - a 264% increase from 2019.

"I'm very proud of the work my office has done to reach this $11 million threshold," said Davids. "Helping folks in our community navigate the federal bureaucracy remains a primary focus of mine. I look forward to building on our success to ensure we are assisting the Third District in every way possible. Everyone deserves a government that works for them, and that's what we aim to provide."

Davids' emphasis on effective constituent services stems from her dedication to office transparency. Earlier this month, her office received the Congressional Management Foundation's Democracy Award for her outstanding accomplishments in Transparency and Accountability. This award is given to one Democrat and one Republican every two years for demonstrating exceptional, meaningful, and robust communications to constituents.

"We contacted Representative Davids' office because the Small Business Administration had been giving us the run around on our SBA EIDL loan increase," said Matt Allen Thrasher, Owner of Golden Rule Relocation LLC. "This was promptly resolved once Representative Davids' team got involved! The responsiveness and effectiveness of the actions taken were more than could be asked for."

"As I was pondering whom to contact to help recover my lost bonds, Rep. Davids' office was the logical choice," said Gloria from Overland Park. "Her team was patient and professional, and I'm glad I went to her first."

Bringing federal funding home to Kansas has been a top priority for Davids. Most recently, she announced that the House Appropriations Committee approved all 15 of her Community Project Funding submissions, advancing more than $32 million for projects ranging from updates to a police mobile command center to the modernization of a traffic-heavy bridge. Each project was submitted in conjunction with local officials and selected for its potential to improve health and safety in the community, tackle climate change, and bring economic opportunity to the Third District.
