KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - U.S. Representatives from both Kansas City and Philly have bet on their home teams as the Chiefs and Eagles prepare for the biggest game in the NFL.

 

U.S. Representatives Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO) and Sharice Davids (D-KS) announced on Friday, Feb. 7, that they have made a friendly bet with Philadelphia area Congressmen Dwight Evans (D-PA) and Brendan Boyle (D-PA) ahead of Super Bowl LIX on Sunday.

Jerry Moran of Kansas said a freeze on federal funding and change at the U.S. Agency for International Development left $340 million in lifesaving food grown in the United States sitting at domestic ports awaiting delivery to locations around the world where people were starving.

Congresswoman Sharice Davids has voted in favor of a bill that would permanently classify fentanyl as a Schedule I narcotic.

 

On Thursday, Feb. 6, U.S. Representative Sharice Davids (D-KS) announced that she voted in favor of bipartisan legislation that would restrict access to fentanyl and provide more resources to fight its use in Kansas.

Members of the Kansas congressional delegation gathered on the U.S. House floor for a moment of silence in honor of people killed when a military helicopter collided with a civilian commercial aircraft from Wichita on approach to Reagan Washington National Airport.

 

U.S. Rep. Ron Estes, R-Kansas, said the idea was to come together with members of Congress impacted by the Jan. 29 accident that killed 64 passengers and crew on Flight 5342 and three U.S. Army personnel aboard the Black Hawk helicopter.

Kansas Representative Sharice Davids has introduced a bipartisan bill aiming to modernize emergency alert systems nationwide.

 

The Weather Alert Response and Notification Act (WARN Act) would strengthen and update critical alert systems. The bill passed the U.S. House in 2024 with unanimous support from both parties.

Congressman Mark Alford (MO-04), Congresswoman Sharice Davids (D-KS), and Congressman Herb Conaway (D-NJ) introduced the Successful Entrepreneurship for Reservists and Veterans (SERV) Act to improve veteran and reservist access to business credit.

 

The SERV Act commissions a GAO study on veterans' ability to secure credit and directs the Interagency Task Force on Veterans Small Business Development to promote available programs.

U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids, a Kansas Democrat, said President Donald Trump’s sudden pause of federal grants, loans and other financial assistance programs was causing unnecessary disruption and anxiety for Kansans.

 

A federal judge in Washington, D.C., temporarily blocked the spending freeze until Monday when a hearing on the issue was scheduled. On Wednesday, two days of backlash apparently led the White House to rescind an order freezing trillions of dollars in federal funding.

Third District representative Sharice Davids visited Bowlin Farms in Olathe Tuesday as part of her Farm Bill Listening Tour.

The Farm Bill is a package of federal legislation passed approximately every five years impacting farming livelihoods, how food is grown and what kinds of foods are grown. It covers crop insurance, healthy food for low income families, farmer training, support for sustainable practices and more.

The current bill has been extended until Sept. 30 by Congress, and negotiations are reopening soon.
