More than $13 billion went to businesses in Kansas and Missouri for COVID-19 assistance last year, according to the Small Business Administration.

On Tuesday, Kansas Rep. Sharice Davids met with small business owners like Jennifer Pugh in Mission, Kansas, to see how they're doing now.

"When you're seen, you're heard," Jennifer Pugh, owner of Lulu's Boutique said.

Pugh explained how federal money helped her during the pandemic and the challenges she now faces.

"It has been a little bit of a train wreck, but we are doing better," Pugh said.

A group of centrist House Democrats is urging leadership to put nearly two dozen health-care bills on the floor for votes.

The endorsement for the swath of legislation will be rolled out with a social media push Thursday and is part of the New Democrat Coalition's broader effort to encourage the party to pass as many bipartisan bills as possible before the midterm elections—while they still control the House, Senate, and White House.

The U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday voted to approve a bill that would increase funding to Women Business Centers through the U.S. Small Business Association, marking another attempt to get additional funding for a program proponents say helps create more female entrepreneurs.

The bill cleared the House on a voice vote, a sign of uncontroversial legislation that has bipartisan approval.

Funding awarded to five local schools or districts through the American Rescue Plan

U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids has recently moved her Overland Park District Office to a new location.

Where exactly: Relocated from 79th Street, the new space can be found at 9200 Indian Creek Parkway in the large office park known as Corporate Woods.

The details: With the help of Mayor Curt Skoog and the Overland Park Chamber of Commerce, Davids and her staff celebrated the office opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Jon Stewart will visit Kansas City on Tuesday and speak with veterans about the need for congress to pass legislation he and others say is critical for veteran's care and benefits.

The VFW is hosting Stewart along with other Veterans Service Organizations (VSO) and Representative Sharice Davids as part of a "Call on Congress" to pass the Honoring our PACT Act, which aims at providing better care and benefits to veterans who have been exposed to toxic materials while serving.

Congress is working on legislation that addresses the national supply chain issue.

That was the message from U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids, D-3rd Dist., who was the keynote speaker Friday, April 15, at the Congressional Forum.

The forum is a function of the Kansas City, Kansas, Area Chamber of Commerce. About 60 persons attended the luncheon meeting at Children's Mercy Park.

Rep. Davids said Republicans and Democrats have come together to help solve the supply issue. She said that shortage is particularly acute when it comes to microchips.
