Today, Representative Sharice Davids announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) awarded Johnson County Community College (JCCC) with $75,129 to enhance on-campus mental health services. The Garrett Lee Smith Campus Suicide Prevention Grant will support JCCC students at risk of suicide, depression, serious mental illness, and/or substance use disorders that can lead to school failure.

Today, Representative Sharice Davids announced the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) awarded Kansas with $42.5 million in bipartisan infrastructure law funding to expand middle mile high-speed internet across the state, including in all five counties in Kansas’ Third Congressional District.

Washington, D.C. – Congressman Tom Cole (OK-04) and Representative Sharice Davids (KS-03), Co-Chairs of the Congressional Native American Caucus, released the following statement after the United States Supreme Court today ruled in favor by a 7-2 vote to uphold the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) and the law’s preference for Native tribes when Indian children are adopted. The ruling provides that the law does not discriminate on the basis of race and does not impose a federal mandate on states.

Today, Representative Sharice Davids announced the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) awarded a renewal of $1.8 million to Growing Futures Early Education Center, a Head Start program in Overland Park, Kansas. These new resources will be used to continue providing early education opportunities and family support services at no cost to eligible children and families in Johnson County.

Today, during Pride Month, Representative Sharice Davids reintroduced legislation to improve mental health supports for at-risk LGBTQI+ youth. A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) survey of American teenagers recently found that LGBTQI+ students report significantly worse mental health than other students.

In a hearing last week, the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee voted to approve Representative Sharice Davids’ amendment to a bipartisan package focused on reinforcing the nation’s supply chain and protecting it from future disruptions. Davids’ amendment strengthens a pilot program to study the impact of increased trucking weights, a critical part of the supply chain for consumer goods and other industries.
