Today, Representative Sharice Davids announced her reassignment to the U.S. House Transportation & Infrastructure (T&I) and Agriculture Committees for the 119th Congress. Davids has served on the T&I Committee since being sworn into Congress and joined the Agriculture Committee in 2022 after Kansas’ Third District was expanded to include more rural areas.

Today, Representative Sharice Davids voted against a partisan government funding package that fails to meet the needs of Kansas families and risks harmful consequences for our country. Davids strongly opposed the package’s provision allowing unlimited spending over the next two years — an unprecedented move. She continues to urge Congress to work across the aisle to prevent a government shutdown and ensure the protection of essential services for Kansans.

Today, Representative Sharice Davids shared how her office worked throughout 2024 to make government work for all Kansans, both by delivering bipartisan results for the Kansas Third and connecting directly with Kansans all year long. This year, Davids reached her highest-ever bipartisanship record, with 83 percent of the bills she supported having bipartisan backing.

Today, Representative Sharice Davids announced the winner of the 2024 Congressional App Challenge for Kansas' Third District: Rafan Shah. Shah is an eighth grader at Aubrey Bend Middle School in Overland Park. His app, NOVA, assists blind or visually impaired individuals in navigating their surroundings through object detection and text-to-speech capabilities.

The ReNew Democracy Foundation helps new voices from across the country make a difference in Congress by connecting them with pragmatic, center-left U.S. House offices. Through the ReNew Democracy Fellowship, participants gain educational development, mentorship, and networking opportunities to support their leadership journey.

Today, Representative Sharice Davids voted against an extreme proposal that would restrict access to health care for service members and their families. Since coming to Congress, Davids has consistently supported the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) in a bipartisan manner. While today’s bill included provisions Davids has long championed — such as improved pay, health care, housing, and child care for service members — she could not support it because it would ultimately harm military families and jeopardize Armed Forces retention.

Today, Representative Sharice Davids, alongside Representative Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), introduced the ABLE Employment Flexibility Act, a bill designed to help workers with disabilities build financial security without risking essential federal benefits. ABLE accounts — special savings accounts for people with disabilities — allow individuals to save money without affecting their eligibility for federal assistance programs.

Why it matters: Quindaro Townsite is not open to the public, and the federal funding that comes with a National Historic Landmark designation would make that possible.

Increases in diesel and gasoline prices are already impacting farmers as they plant crops in Sumner County. Kansas State University economist Gregg Ibendahl estimates that the average Kansas grain farm will spend an additional $10,000 on fuel this season.

Kansas State-Olathe campus representatives joined other local governments Tuesday to highlight new federal funding secured in February by 3rd District Rep. Sharice Davids and Sen. Jerry Moran.

 

K-State Olathe is set to receive $5 million later this year to purchase lab equipment for the school’s supply chain research and advanced manufacturing curriculum. The equipment will support a $4 million expansion the campus opened in January for those programs.

On April 7, Rep. Sharice Davids joined local leaders to announce 14 projects in Kansas’ Third District totaling $17.8 million. The funding will support workforce training, flood mitigation, road and bridge safety, law enforcement, and other community priorities.

The FDA gave accelerated approval for a groundbreaking drug that helps treat Hunter syndrome, a rare disease that affects fewer than 500 people in the United States. It's mainly diagnosed among boys.

 

Hunter syndrome has not had an FDA-approved treatment in 20 years, until now.

Rep. Sharice Davids announced Monday that the Department of Health and Human Services has awarded the East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corporation’s (ECKAN) Head Start program with a new federal grant.

 

The $3.7 million will be used to continue providing early education opportunities and family support services to children and families in Anderson and Miami counties.

Representative Sharice Davids celebrated the reopening of the STARBASE facility at the Kansas City Readiness Center. The program offers hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) learning for elementary students at no cost to schools.
