OLATHE, KS – Today, Representative Sharice Davids hosted U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Deputy Secretary Xochitl Torres Small, Former Kansas Senator Pat Roberts, Kansas Secretary of Agriculture Mike Beam, and other policymakers to discuss the successes and challenges of Kansas’ farmers and producers. The group toured a local farm, held a discussion with regional agriculture professionals, and ate a lunch of locally sourced food.

Today, Representative Sharice Davids celebrated the passage of an additional project request in Kansas’ Third District, bringing the total number of awardees to 15 impactful projects. If accepted by local recipients, the total $15.8 million will help purchase new law enforcement training vehicles, modernize a bridge that connects Kansas and Missouri, improve water access during extreme weather, and more.

Today, Representative Sharice Davids celebrated a new U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) grant for the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC). The $1.9 million award will help local governments replace traffic signals and street lighting with new energy efficient technology. Davids was the only member of Kansas’ congressional delegation to vote for the bipartisan infrastructure law, which created this award.

Today, Representative Sharice Davids announced that $14.8 million is coming to the Third District of Kansas to benefit local projects. If accepted by local recipients, the projects will help purchase new law enforcement training vehicles, modernize a bridge that connects Kansas and Missouri, improve water access during extreme weather, and more. Out of hundreds of bipartisan submissions, 14 Davids-requested projects were passed by the U.S. House of Representatives today as part of a broader bipartisan government funding bill.

Today, Representative Sharice Davids announced that she will be joined by Brian Newton, a veteran and small business owner from Kansas City, KS, at the State of the Union address. After returning home from service, Newton faced multiple challenges in reacclimating to society and starting a business. Since then, he has found success in Morty’s, a food cart and catering business specializing in Italian beef sandwiches and Vienna Beef Chicago-style hot dogs.
