Today, Representative Sharice Davids announced that $23.9 million is coming to the Upper Turkey Creek flood mitigation project in Merriam, Kansas—a longtime priority of the community. This bipartisan infrastructure law funding will be used to lift downtown Merriam out of the floodplain and reduce flood risk to businesses and homes in the area.

A member of the House Small Business Committee, Representative Sharice Davids is a co-sponsor of both bills and has been outspoken about the need to crack down on fraud and abuse in pandemic spending programs.

Last week, Representative Sharice Davids rode the Johnson County Railroad and toured Logistics Hub KC to draw attention to her work to improve local infrastructure, create jobs, and tackle rising costs. As new data shows manufacturing jobs continue to rebound, Davids highlighted her support for making more in Kansas, saying "when we make more here at home, and when we invest in strong supply chains, we lower costs for folks at every point."

Today, Representative Sharice Davids shared four new funding opportunities for Kansas small businesses provided by the American Rescue Plan. Davids is the only member of the Kansas delegation who voted for the American Rescue Plan, which has already helped hundreds of businesses in the Kansas Third District stay afloat. Davids also serves as the Chair of the House Small Business Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax, and Capital Access.

Today, Representative Sharice Davids hosted a Facebook Live conversation on the infant formula shortage and shared resources to ensure families have convenient access to safe and affordable formula. Davids was joined by Dr. Natasha Burgert, MD, FAAP, a pediatrician in Overland Park, who shared that families should speak to a pediatrician and have caution when deciding on an alternative form of nutrition for their child.

Today, Representative Sharice Davids announced that 15 students from the Kansas Third District have successfully received their appointment to a U.S. Service Academy or a preparatory program. In a sendoff event in Overland Park this afternoon, Davids presented each student with a certificate acknowledging their incredible achievement, and Julia Breidenthal, a current student at the United States Coast Guard Academy, shared her advice as these students take the next step in their service.
