Today, Representative Sharice Davids and Representative Ruben Gallego (AZ-07) called on Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Commissioner Charles Rettig to increase the mileage rate deduction used by small business owners who operate a vehicle for their business. Pointing to the recent rise in gas prices, the lawmakers urge Commissioner Rettig to increase the standard mileage deduction rate and give small business owners a break from rising costs.

Today, Representative Sharice Davids testified before the House Natural Resources Committee on her bipartisan bill, the Truth and Healing Commission on Indian Boarding School Policies Act. Today's hearing on her legislation, which aims to understand and heal from the impact of federal Indian boarding school policies, directly follows the release of Volume 1 of the Department of the Interior's report identifying 408 schools and more than 50 associated burial sites. Davids is one of the first two Native American women elected to the U.S.

Today, Representative Sharice Davids voted to ensure law enforcement agencies have the time and resources to fully investigate fraud cases involving pandemic relief programs. A member of the House Small Business Committee, Davids voted to advance two bipartisan bills that extend the statute of limitations on certain fraud cases related to the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and COVID-19 Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program.

Today, Representative Sharice Davids, Senators Jerry Moran and Roger Marshall, M.D., and Representative Jake LaTurner announced the Migratory Bird Conservation Commission awarded $2 million to Ducks Unlimited to conserve and restore more than 7,301 acres of wetland and associated upland habitats across Kansas. This grant, made through the North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA), will protect habitats for waterfowl, songbirds, and other birds, while also supporting local economies and outdoor recreational opportunities, such as hunting, fishing, and birdwatching.

MISSION, KS – Today, Representative Sharice Davids held a "Main Street Stroll" in Downtown Mission to celebrate National Small Business Week, visiting four small businesses and hosting the owners for a roundtable discussion. During the roundtable, they discussed how federal relief programs helped them stay open through the pandemic and the challenges they still face.

Today, the House passed Representative Sharice Davids' bipartisan Women's Business Centers Improvement Act, which would increase access to resources and opportunities for female entrepreneurs in Kansas and across the country. Davids reintroduced this bill in January along with Representative Claudia Tenney (R-NY) and today it passed with strong bipartisan support.

Kansas State-Olathe campus representatives joined other local governments Tuesday to highlight new federal funding secured in February by 3rd District Rep. Sharice Davids and Sen. Jerry Moran.

 

K-State Olathe is set to receive $5 million later this year to purchase lab equipment for the school’s supply chain research and advanced manufacturing curriculum. The equipment will support a $4 million expansion the campus opened in January for those programs.

On April 7, Rep. Sharice Davids joined local leaders to announce 14 projects in Kansas’ Third District totaling $17.8 million. The funding will support workforce training, flood mitigation, road and bridge safety, law enforcement, and other community priorities.

The FDA gave accelerated approval for a groundbreaking drug that helps treat Hunter syndrome, a rare disease that affects fewer than 500 people in the United States. It's mainly diagnosed among boys.

 

Hunter syndrome has not had an FDA-approved treatment in 20 years, until now.

Rep. Sharice Davids announced Monday that the Department of Health and Human Services has awarded the East Central Kansas Economic Opportunity Corporation’s (ECKAN) Head Start program with a new federal grant.

 

The $3.7 million will be used to continue providing early education opportunities and family support services to children and families in Anderson and Miami counties.

Two Ag Committee Democrats will argue to President Donald Trump and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins today that recent efforts to increase imports of Argentinian beef will do little to lower prices while spurring market volatility.
