OVERLAND PARK, KS – Today, Representative Sharice Davids hosted a "Main Street Stroll" in Downtown Overland Park, visiting four local businesses to hear how the American Rescue Plan and other federal relief programs helped them stay open through the pandemic. She also hosted the owners for a roundtable discussion, where they discussed the challenges they still face as our economy begins to get back on track after the public health and subsequent economic crisis.

Today, Representative Sharice Davids visited the WaterOne facility in Olathe, meeting with staff and touring the Ralph Wyss Pumping Station, which primarily serves southern Johnson County. Last week, Congress reviewed and advanced Davids' request for federal funds to purchase a backup generator for this facility, which would provide safe and clean drinking water to Kansas households in times of emergency.

Today, the INVEST in America Act, a comprehensive federal surface transportation bill, passed the House, bringing it one step closer to becoming law. It includes federal funding for two infrastructure projects in the Third District, as well as two bills introduced earlier this year by Representative Sharice Davids (D-KS). Davids spoke on the House Floor ahead of the passage of the INVEST in America Act, sharing why US 69 is an example of the dire need to make long-overdue investments in our infrastructure.

Representative Sharice Davids (KS-03) issued the following statement on the Senate Republicans decision to block S.1., the For the People Act, from being debated on the Senate floor:

"I am disappointed that Republicans in the Senate did not meet the moment and deliver on the will of the people today, instead choosing to block the For the People Act from even coming to the floor for debate. These policies—modernizing our elections, rooting out corruption, protecting the freedom to vote—are supported by a majority of Americans, regardless of who they voted for.

Today, as the Chair of the House Small Business Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax and Capital Access, Representative Sharice Davids led a hearing on the barriers facing women entrepreneurs. Executive Director of the Kansas City Women's Business Center Sherry Turner testified during the hearing, sharing her experience working with over 800 female business owners in Kansas, particularly through the pandemic.
